Careful when you go out during Holi !

Holi is an important Hindu festival. It is celebrated with lots of water and colourful powder. Smearing colors on friends and dear ones is (todays) basic idea of Holi, no one is spared. Both the young and the old enjoy throwing water balloons, dry colors, and washable dyes on anyone in sight on the day of the Holi.

Check out the picture of this family going home after Holi on their motorbike!

On leaving Delhi, my driver wasn't very attentive and left his window open. Only minutes later a water ballon flew in and soaked both of us. Unfortunately there is no picture of the incident. At the beginning I was quite furious about his lack of attention. After a while I recovered. It was only water. My camera and mobile phone were still working. After all: Chapeau! What a good shot!

Holi used to be a spring festival about fertility and harvest. In terms of the legend it marks the day when the devotee of lord Vishnu, Bakt Prahlad, seated on the lap of demoness Holika, was saved from the effect of the fire by God and the demoness got burnt instead.
